I enjoy painting when the light plays on the surface of the waters, when trees, mountains and sky weave their forms with a lake or a stream. I observe and explore the movements of the light and the wind on the surface of waters. While painting I follow the rhythmical movements of the water with my brush, as I hear the trees whispering in the wind and see their form disappear on the waters. I paint as mapping the spaces of light and form. By painting in front of the same lakes every month, year after year I am able to observe and feel deeply the changes taking place in our environment and the effects of these changes in my paintings and in our community.
Following in the footsteps of the Hudson River Artists, I celebrate our River and The Catskill Mountains and wish to preserve the aliveness of our environment. I have been painting since a child but I started paintings the lakes, rivers and forests of the Catskill Mountains since October of 1980. That year was the first time in my adult life that I felt the sense of being at home, a deep feeling of interconnectedness with my environment.
In 1986 I made my home in these mountains. I live in Woodstock, NY. This is the place I love every day in every season.
