I enjoy painting when the light plays on the surface of the waters, when trees, mountains and sky weave their forms with a lake or a stream. I observe and explore the movements of the light and the wind. While painting I follow the rhythmical movements of colors on the water. I paint as mapping the spaces of light and form. By painting in front of the same lakes every month, year after year I am able to observe and feel deeply the changes taking place in our environment and the effects of these changes in our environment.
…Nothing beats the feeling of seeing the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains right in front you. Following in the footsteps of the Hudson River Artists, I celebrate our River and these mountains and wish to preserve the aliveness of our environment. I have been painting since a child, but I started paintings the lakes, rivers and waters of the Catskill Mountains in October of 1980. That year was the first time in my adult life that I felt the sense of being at home, a deep feeling of interconnectedness with my environment and community.
The wilderness, our natural environment and art has always been a vital part of our collective conscience here in the Hudson Valley.
In 1986 I made my home in these mountains. I live in Woodstock, NY. This is the place I love every day in every season.
